MEST4 Preliminary exercise: evaluation

1) Why did you choose this particular recreation and how does it link to your main production?

I choose this magazine because of the person on the front cover, Bryan Cranston, the star of my main text i focus on which is Breaking Bad. It had a strong link with the character and i think that is something which i can do for the main thing. I could pick a character from a TV crime drama that links to my critical investigation and feature a magazine piece on them placing them on the front cover and in the opening of the magazine. This would be similar to the newspaper issue of Men's health that Plan B was featured on when promoting his film Ill Manors

2) What difficulties did you face in producing this recreation?

I did face quite a few difficulties. I'd forgotten how to use Photoshop to an extent but it did start coming back to me throughout. Trying to copy the font exact was quite difficult as there was nothing similar i  could just select and type out. The image was quite difficult to recreate with the resources i had and i would definitely use a proper shoot next time for the main image. 


3) What are the strengths of the production?

I'd say that i learnt more things from it which i could take away such as technique, for example i tried hard with the actual GQ logo and it payed off because i could recreate to a certain extent how they did it in the real thing.4) What aspects would you look to improve?

I would like to improve the main image and the quality of text i had as the text used had to be cropped down and had the color changed. This slightly distorted the images and made it more bolder than i intended.


5) What lessons will you take from this process that will help you with your main production?

 I will take the timings away from this process as i handed it in late and i will also take ideas from what i have already seen such as the layout of the front cover because it was very professional in the way that everything was presented.


6) Now that you are ready to start your actual linked production, explain clearly what you will be creating and how confident you are in delivering this.

I will be creating a magazine front cover and a double page spread. The magazine will center around a TV show which comes from a crime drama and it will have a piece about an actor on the front cover. There will also be an interview made and a transcript created, the questions and answer will somewhat relate to my critical investigation.
